O'Ki fishing flashers also have many different visible and invisible properties to consider. Plastic additives, coatings, mylar tapes and paint schemes give fishing flashers specific solutions to enhancing the attraction to a bait. The Jelly Fish line of products from O'Ki have a ultra violet chemical added to enhance visibility in low light conditions. Some O'Ki flashers will have phosphorescent chemicals added to the plastic to create a glow in the dark product. The O'Ki Betsy is salt water specific and manufactured in a manner that insures that the finish will corrode over time but is designed to give of an electrical charge similar to live bait.

Experienced sport and commercial salmon fishermen in the pacific west coast of North America have developed trolling techniques that are tried and true. Many salmon fishing trollers use of soft plastic octopus hootchies as an alternate fishing bait since the late 1960's. It is well known that trolling a bait without the use of an action enhancer flasher will see no positive results. The desired fishing lure action is to resemble the natural feed of a predator salmon. Decades to field testing has resulted in a method of trolling for salmon that is the most effective and productive. Resembling a distressed or wounded herring or minnow will attract salmon and other predator fish to attack. A flasher setup is one of the best methods of resembling a wounded bait in distress
