Jughead was researched and designed on Vancouver Island for salmon fishing. The Jughead, depending on the type of attached lure will resemble many species of bait fish that reside or migrate to coastal areas. Research and testing results have been highly positive for many sizes of bait such as herring, anchovies and pilchard. There are 4 Jughead sizes available to accommodate for bait type, speed of troll and other factors. Jughead is also very successful for trolling many types of soft plastics such as Hoochies, B2 squids and Baitrix. There are no limits to experimenting with combinations such Bucktails, Skinny Boy's and Get Reel lures.

MULTI PACK JUGHEADS:

PRETIED JUGHEAD BAIT LEADERS FOR SALE:
Hook: Siwash 6/0Swivel: Multi link plated black nickel
Leader: 40 pound
Leader length: 6 feet / 1.8 meter
You can attach Jughead to a flasher or dodger but it is not necessary. Jughead swims your bait or lures incredibly well at trolling speeds of 2.5 to 3.5+ mph. Jughead simply makes the bait look alive with an erratic but natural swim action!
TIPS FOR DOWNRIGGERS:
Our best advice for getting the lure down to the salmon is to use a downrigger with a dummy flasher. The lure line would be clipped to the downrigger line above the rotating flasher. If you still want to use an inline flasher give your bait a 5 foot to 6 foot leader. This leader length applies to all baits you attach to a Jughead Shaker.

TIPS FOR TROLLING BAIT:
Frozen type bait fish should be totally thawed for Jughead to swim it effectively. Cold bait will naturally be a little stiff but once in the water it will thaw and swim correctly. You will notice that your bait will last a lot longer this way. Stiffening bait brines or tuning wires are not suggested and will result in decreasing the swim action. Use your bait right out of the package and keep it cold for prolonged periods of fishing. There are multiple ways to set up your Jughead. You can use tandem hooks or a single hook. If you are using a single hook let the hook trail underneath the bait. It will move up to the underbelly of the bait once you start to troll.
*If you are using real bait, the line goes through the bottom hole of the Jughead and then through the middle hole in the bill of the Jughead.
SUGGESTED RIGGING METHOD FOR BAIT:

The red bead in the illustration is key to insuring that the Jughead works correctly.
The hook setup can differ from what is shown.
We have found the treble / single works very well.
Treble size #1 or 1/0, octopus 4/0 single

The illustration shows a toothpick being installed to lock the bead into a desired location on the line
Trim the toothpick flush with clippers after installing the toothpick.
We recommended a soft Iota bead or Wigglefin locking bead.

The bait is installed to the Jughead with another toothpick.
The bait needs to swing freely and not impaired by a tight line leading to the hooks.
The line that runs between the Jughead and the hooks needs to be left limp.
The primary treble hook is attached to the bait, while the trailing is to left unattached.
Boat speed, current, weight of leader and type of bait will vary the presentation and success of the lure.
* Note: Some fisherman have reported that the toothpick hole (red arrow) too small.
We recommend you prepare this hole to match your toothpick diameter prior to rigging.
EXAMPLE OF OCTO HOOCHIE RIGGING:

HOOCHIE RIGGING INSTRUCTIONS:
Put line through center hole in the Jughead.
Troll on a downrigger without a flasher.
Clip the leader on at 30 foot leader.
Vary your trolling speed similar to flasher fishing and slightly faster.
