Ground Fish Conservation Tool. Catch & Release descender - Rod 'n Reel Model

This is a saltwater tool for conserving fish with swim bladders.

Have you ever reel a Bass or Cod in and notice it's eyes and stomach are Blown up. Then you let it off the line and it just floats around until it dies. The tool we have for sale here is to lower the rock fish back to the bottom with minimal harm. This tool & others like it a mandatory if you are fishing in some locations to insure fish conservation.

This tool is 5" x 1.5" Stainless steel wire. Comes with simple instructions

Inset point of descender inside the thin skin of the lower mouth of the fish. Gently lower the fish back into the water. Gently feed line from the reel. As the fish is descending you should feel increased weight as the fish starts swimming down deeper. Stop descent before the ocean bottom, or the depth you were fishing at and then give the rod a jerk. You will feel the fish swim away. 1 or 2lb weight is suggested to use with the tool.

Some more information that I stole from another website.:

The design is simple and has a S shape hook loop that hooks through the fish’s lower lip and holds the fish securely until the line is pulled which turns the fish upwards and allows the DD to pop out. The DD offers minimum recovery time because of the almost immediate attached to the fish and descent of the fish by the angler while fishing using his existing fishing gear. Lower the fish between a minimum of 33 feet and the bottom before releasing. At just over 30 feet the pressure will change by one atmosphere and will assist in re-compressing the fishing’s air bladder. When the fish is release the angler is able to continue fishing with minimum loss of fishing time. The SFD allows the fish to be lowered in the normal sim position and avoid disorientation confusion by the fish. It keeps the fish’s mouth slightly ajar and the decent allows water to move across the gills to remove oxygen and pass CO2 to aid in quick recovery. It jolts and shocks the fish at the time of the release and surges it forward when releasing to help the fish get safely on its way. It allows a positive finger controlled descent to counter the action of the up and down swells as they move the boat up and down. It allows for the fish to signal you by tugging on the line when it’s ready to be released because it has sufficiently recovered or it senses danger from an approaching predator fish or a jelly fish.

Should I reel in fish hooked in deep water quickly or slowly? The longer it takes to land a fish, the more stress it experiences. Quickly landing a fish gives it more energy because of less oxygen depletion which allows quicker recovery time after re-compression and quicker re-oxygenation.
